Synopsis Essay: Is It a Summary or Personal Evaluation?
Synopsis essay is a brief overview of some writing: essay, article, story, novel, book, etc. If you need to write a good synopsis essay, you should bear in mind several essential points. What are these crucial points?
- The first and the most important point you should remember is that a synopsis essay is not a summary of some writing, but rather a catching overview revealing the most interesting and significant parts of the writing.
- First of all, in your synopsis essay you should point provide some brief information on the author. Here you may mention the main works of this author, some peculiarities of his/her writing style, maybe, some facts of this very writing creation, etc.
- You should also provide very brief summary of the writing. However, do bear in mind that your synopsis essay should not provide the entire plot, you should provoke readers’ attention; you should make them want to read the writing under analysis.
- After you mentioned some definite information on plot in your synopsis essay you should depict the idea which the author tried to reveal. Of course, this part will contain considerable part of your personal opinion. However, your ideas should be supported by some background knowledge taken from reliable sources.
- Then you must try to consider whether the author succeeded in revealing his idea. In fact, your synopsis essay should contain some evaluation.
Finally, you should also remember that your synopsis essay should not be too personal; you must try to be objective. Of course, you cannot use first person. Your synopsis essay should be written in the third person singular.
